Why you should support the Reno-Sparks NAACP
Just a recent few among many decades of reasons

     1. We are part of the nation's premiere civil rights organization founded in 1909. This Branch has been serving northern Nevada since 1945.

     2. Injustice toward one is an injustice toward all.

     3. In the past 3+ years we...

          • ...hosted two major public forums on community policing with all local law enforcement agencies participating

          • ...were the catalyst for a major federal civil rights litigation victory in the Nevada outback. The Yerington Police Department and Lyon County School District were guilty of overt, endemic discrimination against African-American students. An attempt was made on their lives. We broke the story which went national and found legal counsel which won the case. (Yerington still is not fixed.)

          • ...KKKKnocked racist Assemblymember Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, out of the speakership of the Nevada State Assembly in 2014. Our campaign, endorsed by the late, great Julian Bond, scored press everywhere from the Maui News to The New York Times (11-24-2014) to the London Guardian. See BallotBoxing.US for the sordid story. (We were honored for the support provided by civil rights legend Julian Bond in one of his final acts shortly before his death.)

          • ...became the principal contributor to a major London Guardian exposé regarding Tesla's impact on renters and low-income people in this region. (7-3-2018: London daily circulation, 180,000; ONE BILLION WEB PAGE VIEWS PER MONTH). Local media have read it and are just now following up.

"All humanity has left the area": paying for Tesla's Gigafactory
Barbano and Nevada conservatives decry corporate welfare depredations

By Rory Carroll / The Guardian 7-3-2018

We also criticized the negative impacts of Nevada's corporate welfare addiction. (Associated Press national wire 10-20-2017, picked up by most newspapers and media websites in the United States. Thank you, Oakland Raiders.)

The annual Freedom Fund Banquet is our principal fundraising event.

Because of the national organization's reputation, some imagine that we have a team of lawyers ready to pounce from a downtown Reno high-rise office. The facts are far less glamorous.

We are what we've always been — a small group of unpaid dedicated local volunteers.

As they say in boxing, we know how to punch above our weight. Please join us in fighting the good fight.

The dream will never die and the work will never end.

Thank you.

A gathering of legends long ago
Eddie Scott, far left, speaks with Helen Stewart White, far right. To Helen's right are Mary Johnson and Dolores Feemster. I've met the two ladies between Dolores and Eddie but can't recall their names. All enlightenment appreciated. Thank you. — Andrew Barbano
